The future of artificial intelligence hinges on getting the rules right. Poorly designed regulations can slow innovation, burden startups, and limit the potential of AI to improve lives. At the same time, unregulated AI risks reinforcing bias, violating privacy, and enabling harmful misuse.
We advocate for smart, risk-based AI regulations that ensure ethical safeguards—like transparency, accountability, and privacy protections—without crippling the pace of innovation.

We support smart, targeted regulation that protects national security without slowing American innovation. We believe policymakers must account for real risks like foreign adversary access, data exploitation, and supply chain vulnerability while preserving open markets and technological leadership. Getting this balance right is how the U.S. stays competitive and secure in a rapidly evolving digital world.

■ OUR STORY
The Digital future project was born from a deep conviction: that the digital revolution must not leave our civil liberties behind.
Our founder, Victor Lopez, grew up in the borderlands of San Diego and Tijuana—a place where identity, freedom, and opportunity are never taken for granted. The son of immigrants and a first-generation college graduate, Victor's journey began in public service, advising San Diego leaders on innovation and inclusion. As Executive Director of the Lincoln Club of San Diego, he built coalitions across ideological lines to promote economic mobility and government accountability.
But the future was calling—and it was digital.
Witnessing the rise of AI, technological advancements, and data capitalism, Victor recognized a dangerous gap: innovation was accelerating, but our institutions weren’t ready. The rules were either outdated or nonexistent. COMPANIES WERE BEING UNFAIRLY ATTACKED BY THE GOVERNMENT, AND common sense was being eroded by algorithms.
In response, he founded THE DIGITAL FUTURE PROJECT, a 501(c)(4) designed to forge a new kind of advocacy rooted in the belief that technology must serve freedom, not exploit it.
